This is somewhat related to the new recordings, so hang in there with me. Last night I ventured out to a show opening for photographer Lexie Moreland. Lexie’s work appears frequently on brightestyoungthings.com where I am a constant as well. She has turned into one of my favorite photographers in short order. I was initially enamored with her polaroids (still am, truth be told) but then she would stun me with her color work. A few weeks would go by and she would post the most amazing black and white shots that my jaw would literally drop (hogging up the entire keyboard with drool and rendering me quite useless.) My gut told me to push her to stay with the polaroids as a medium but now that seemed like it would be placing a net around her talent.
The only thing I had seen from her portfolio before that wasn’t extensively explored were some engaging and playful polaroid transfers that she would draw on. It seemed a “phase” in her development, forever left behind. Imagine my amazement as I walk into the show only to realize that she has re-worked the images I had seen previously and proceeded to build several new ones – all utterly enchanting to the eye. I was surprised. I am never surprised. It was nice to feel.
I am coaxing Lexie into shooting yours truly and hopefully working her magic to the extent that I am presentable. Those images will be what accompanies the new songs when they are ready to send around. Maybe some of her talent can rub off a little. She seems to have plenty to spare.
